I’ve been involved in the shooting sports since I was recruited to my high school’s Junior ROTC rifle team, shooting smallbore and air rifles in competition, and picking up a few trophies along the way. I wasn’t able to continue much competitive shooting in college, I did get involved in IPSC at a local indoor range for a year or two, the pistol and gear I owned wasn’t really optimal, but it was good experience. One day, during the bad days of the 1994 Assault Weapons Ban, I was shopping for a 1911 with the intent of getting back into IPSC, when instead I found a pre-ban Colt Match HBAR for a reasonable price, so I gave NRA highpower a try instead. I competed in that for a few years, shooting Master or High Master scores in prone and sitting, but my offhand was so bad I never quite got out of Expert Class. I took a break from competition for a few years dealing with work and family, but earning my second degree black belt in Tae Kwan Do, and have recently been able to spend more time shooting and earning my NRA Instructor certifications for the Basic Pistol, Personal Protection Inside the Home, and Refuse To Be A Victim courses.
I enjoy teaching practical skills, whether it’s shooting or self-defense, I tend to have strong opinions on the Second Amendment and politics, I’m firmly of the belief that the purpose of government is to provide a layer of protection for our rights and property so we can pursue our own dreams and happiness, not to regulate us to death or endanger those rights and property.
